Rachel Gray

I am currently a Master’s student in the Department of Biomedical and Molecular Sciences. I received my Bachelors Degree from the University of Waterloo in Biomedical Honours Science with a minor in Chemistry. I have always been super interested in antibiotic resistance and the way in which pathogens have evolved to have mechanisms to defend themselves against our current strategies to stop the spread of bacteria. Currently, I am working on understanding why or how these processes are occurring and also developing new methods/strategies to detect carbapenemase-producing bacteria, which could lead to guiding appropriate antibiotic treatment of serious infections. Aside from research, I enjoy any activities outdoors, also baking/cooking, reading and running!
