Welcome to the Lohans research group in the Department of Biomedical and Molecular Sciences at Queen’s University, Canada! We use biochemical and microbiological approaches to study antibiotics and antibiotic resistance mechanisms. Undergraduate and graduate students interested in biochemistry, microbiology, and chemistry research are encouraged to get in contact.

March 2022: Congrats to undergraduate student Josephine Liu on being awarded an NSERC USRA to carry out work with us this summer!

July 2021: Our review on the covalent interactions between beta-lactam antibiotics and their targets and resistance mechanisms has been accepted in RSC Medicinal Chemistry – great work by Montse! https://pubs.rsc.org/en/content/articlelanding/2021/md/d1md00200g

June 2020: Thanks to NSERC for awarding us a Discovery Grant, supporting our work on understanding bacterial resistance mechanisms against carbapenem antibiotics!

May 2020: Congrats to incoming MSc student Montserrat Mora Ochomogo on being awarded a Mitacs Globalink Graduate Fellowship!!
